Fish and maize merge into hybrid beings linking water and earth, food and culture. The circular form evokes the natural cycles of life.
The sculptures are made using Mexican cartonería, recycled materials and an organic adhesive, without an internal wire frame.
The original five-part work
Wo das Wasser keimt began with a five-part work by Rubí Juárez from the Iconoclastic series. Other artists extended this starting point into the collective project shown here.
The installation photograph shows the collaborative presentation, rather than a separate catalogue record of Rubí Juárez’s original five-part work.
Contributions to the collective installation
Rubí Juárez: painting and visual concept. Sonia Siblik: three-dimensional sculptures in Mexican cartonería. Sofía Cecilia Andretta Juárez, Marco Antonio Grajeda and Nicte-Ha Gómez Escobar: painted works.
The paintings and sculptures were presented in 2026 as part of HOLA MEXICO! at the Lapidarium Museum in Novigrad, Croatia. The digital extension is planned and is not presented as completed.
